Joanne Lichten PhD RD (a.k.a. Dr. Jo) is an accomplished author, freelance writer, speaker, and media spokesperson who have worked with millions of people and companies through her personal and mass media appearances.
Dr. Jo is a professional speaker; she has presented over 1000 dynamite keynotes, seminars, and full-day programs designed to help busy people (and companies) stay healthy, sane, and productive. Her audience members have described her as being knowledgeable, entertaining, energetic, animated, and fun. She has presented programs at business-related public programs, state and national conventions (including the Associated General Contractors, Restaurants & Institutions Summit, The Farm Foundation, DIET 2005, and the National Wellness Conference) and to a wide variety of companies including AT&T, IBM, Marriot Hotels, Exxon/Mobil, and Chicago Title, Compaq/HP, US Border Patrol, Norwegian Cruises, BASF, and Virginia Tech.
As a PhD nutritionist and Registered Dietitian she has written four books including Dining Lean: How to Eat Healthy in Your Favorite Restaurants, How to Stay Healthy & Fit on the Road, and Dr. Jo’s No Big Deal Diet—the seven skills for successful weight loss (based on her research). Dr. Jo’s articles and quotes have appeared in hundreds of publications including USA TODAY, Boston Globe, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Muscle & Fitness, Cooking Light, Woman’s Day, Newsday, and Business Traveler. Dr. Jo has appeared on more than 300 radio & TV shows including CNN, “Fox & Friends”, “Living Better TV”, and “Let’s Talk Travel with AAA”. She is invited on the show as the nutrition expert - either as the author of her books or as a media spokesperson (representing many companies including NutriGrain, Yoplait, KFC, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, and SlimFast). Many have been on location; some have been satellite media tours. She's such as popular guest because she knows how to get the audience’s attention with her sense of humor, expert information, and use of analogies and examples (and props for TV) that people relate to.
Dr. Jo earned her PhD in adult education from Texas A&M University and her MS in human nutrition from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Jo’s a former director and assistant professor at the University of Texas/Pan American University where she developed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics Program and earned full national accreditation. She’s owned her own business since 1986 and most recently served as the chief nutrition officer at Burger King Corporation from 2003-2004.
