Jewel Kilcher, known mononymously as Jewel, is a singer-songwriter, mental health and mindfulness advocate, producer, actress, author, and poet. She has received four Grammy Award nominations and, as of 2015, has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Her New York Times best-selling memoir Never Broken chronicles how she used hard work, grit and grace to survive and thrive under extreme circumstances she encountered while growing up. Her lifelong passion for her own personal growth and health is helping her to become the spokesperson of modern day wellness and mindfulness by sharing those same practices she used from her own childhood. She is also passionate about mental health, equal rights, at-risk youth and wellness and equality in the workplace. She is also partnering with parenting and education experts to create curriculum for public schools, as well as cutting edge youth development programs.
Jewel went from a girl who grew up with no running water on an Alaskan homestead, to a homeless teenager in San Diego, to an award winning, Multi-Platinum Recording Artist who released one of the best-selling debuts of all time.
Through her career Jewel has sold over 30 million albums worldwide, earned 26 Music Award nominations, including The Grammys, American Music Awards, MTV Awards, VH1 Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Country Music Awards, winning 8 times. Jewel has been featured on the cover of TIME Magazine, Rolling Stone, performed on Saturday Night Live, at the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, for The Pope and The President Of The United States. She has experimented with several genres over her career with top hits in Folk, Pop, Club, Country, Standards, Children's and Holiday music.
Jewel founded Jewel Inc., which is a holding company for all of her passions and work in music, tv, film and entrepreneurial endeavors. The company creates human development, education and mindfulness tools for individuals by collaborating with school districts, corporations and consumers, in hopes of helping more people to become WHOLE HUMANS. She partners with one of the world’s most innovative companies and entrepreneurs (Tony Hsieh of Zappos) to help deliver happiness into people's everyday lives, at work and at home. This business offers organizations a digital curriculum to help them enter the next frontier of corporate culture; making meaningful investments in their human capital. This system increases happiness, productivity and loyalty, while inspiring people to be less anxious, more resilient, creative and entrepreneurial.
Jewel partners with parenting and education experts to create curriculum for public schools, as well as cutting edge youth development programs. The content emphasizes mindfulness and emotional intelligence to give every-day-people a "psychology for life," so they can do what she has done - be the architects of their own life, rather than a passenger in a life they’ve inherited. Through Jewel's Never Broken Foundation and program, she has partnered with the Inspiring Children Foundation to make mindfulness and emotional intelligence tools available to the masses for free. Through "Project clean water," the water charity Jewel started over twenty years ago, she has built and supported the construction of wells all over the world.
She actively participates in panels and presentations addressing issues related to wellness and equality in the workplace, education of at-risk youth, and mindfulness
