Edward Hughes, MD, became a faculty member of the Kellogg School of Management in 1977 as professor of health industry management and as professor of management and strategy. He also founded Northwestern University's Center for Health Services and Policy Research in 1977 and served as its Director for eighteen years. He is also a professor of Preventive Medicine in Northwestern's medical school. Hughes's teaching and research interests focus on health care policy and management; managed care; health delivery systems; the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries; physician behavior; physician hospital relations; the economics of health care, and the quality of health care. Dr. Hughes is the author of two books: Hospital Cost Containment Programs: A Policy Analysis and Perspectives on Quality in American Health Care and he has had more than 40 articles published in leading academic journals. He is a consultant to numerous organizations and holds membership in several professional associations.
