Matt Iseman, MD
An honors graduate of Princeton University and the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Iseman headed home to the University of Colorado for a residency in Internal Medicine. Now based out of Los Angeles, he is a licensed physician and a professional comedian who captivates audiences from all walks of life with his hilarious presentations that revolve around his real-life experiences as a physician.
Combining an energetic, charismatic stage presence with incisive material, Dr. Iseman skewers topics from lunchtime conferences on morbidity and mortality to “pager duels” to malpractice woes and he also tackles his own struggles with chronic illness in the form of Rheumatoid Arthritis and a bout with cancer. His ongoing battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis transformed him into a strong supporter of the Arthritis Foundation, the charity he’s represented while winning Celebrity Apprentice. Always hilarious and ever respectful of the profession, he has performed for hospital meetings, medical conferences and pharmaceutical company events from coast to coast, reminding healthcare professionals that, while laughter may not cure diseases, it can make them a little less painful.
Audiences may recognize Dr. Iseman as the host of American Ninja Warrior, one of the top shows of the summer, or from the new Celebrity Apprentice. With over 15 years hosting Television shows and headlining comedy clubs and corporate events, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more experienced speaker.
- A Laughing Matter: How Arthritis Took Me from Doctor to Patient to Person
Before Dr. Matt Iseman started dispensing humorous one-liners as a professional comedian, he dispensed medicine as a licensed physician. But five years ago, soon after leaving his job as a doctor, he received a diagnosis that was anything but funny: He had Rheumatoid Arthritis. Since that diagnosis, he has been coping with RA while struggling to become one of the country’s top comedians. In this presentation, Dr. Iseman shares how the sense of humor and positive outlook that fuels his professional endeavors also helps him deal with life as a patient.
- Your Prescription for Laughs
As the bottom line increasingly becomes the top priority, every employee in the healthcare industry has felt the added pressure in an already stressful field. With job descriptions changing from week to week and enough paperwork to fell a good-sized forest, there has never been a more stressful time to work in healthcare. Insurance payments are down, support staff is being cut, and job satisfaction is at an all-time low. In fact, the only thing that is up is stress. Be it the antiquated computer systems (or their unwieldy upgrades), the constant job cuts, or the seemingly constant “reviews”, Dr. Iseman has seen it all. But, more importantly, he sees the humor in it. Showing how to use humor to combat stress, Dr. Iseman proves that laughter really is the best medicine

"Dr. Iseman was great! The audience was very receptive to what he had to say because we all could relate to what he was talking about... a lot of critical care aspects, a lot of internal medicine. He's been a critical part of our conference, and we really enjoyed him.”
