Ming-Na Wen is best known for playing the role of Melinda May in the ABC action drama series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and for voicing Fa Mulan, one of the Disney Princesses, in the films Mulan and Mulan II. Wen is also known for her role as Dr. Jing-Mei "Deb" Chen on the medical drama series ER. Besides television, she is notable for starring in the films The Joy Luck Club, Street Fighter, and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. A prolific and versatile television actress who also has an impressive resume onstage and on the big screen, Ming-Na is one of the most successful Asian-American actresses of her generation. Ming-Na was born to Cantonese parents on November 20, 1963, on the Coloane Island of Macau. When she was four years old, Ming-Na, her mother and stepfather moved from Hong Kong to New York City. Ming-Na graduated from Carnegie Melon in 1985.

Ming-Na was born to Cantonese parents on November 20, 1963, on the Coloane Island of Macau. Ming-Na's parents divorced when she was still a baby, and she and her mother moved to Hong Kong. When she was four years old, Ming-Na, her mother and stepfather moved from Hong Kong to New York City.

"I've been lucky, knock on wood," she says of her career thus far. "But you have to have a sense of humor and grounding about all this stuff. I have a gypsy spirit. That's why I keep an apartment in New York for when I want to get back to theater, because Broadway always will be my final fantasy."
