Mr. Busch created and directed a new research group, Market Intelligence Branch (MIB), for the agency. As CMIO, his job was to provide objective research on the financial markets to the CFTC, SEC, US Treasury and Federal Reserve. Energy, agriculture, interest rates and technology (Bitcoin, blockchain, AI) were some of the areas of research covered by the team. Each week, he led the agency on a market and economic roundtable discussion with the staffs of the White House, the US Treasury, the SEC, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Federal Reserve Board.
Prior to joining the CFTC, Mr. Busch was CEO and founder of a boutique financial markets and policy research firm, Bering Productions, Inc (BPI). Before BPI, he was the Global Currency and Public Policy Strategist for Bank of Montreal (BMO) in Chicago. He is author of the book “World Event Trading” covering large crises like infectious disease outbreaks and their impact on the markets.
- The Future Economy: growth opportunities
The world is going to see more economic change in the next 5 years than we have seen in the last 100 years. Just when we were getting over the worst of COVID, Russia invaded. The war in the Ukraine is a great example of the speed of change and the disruption that can happen to the global economy. As well, foundational AI, blockchain and co-bots are just a few of the extraordinary tools being leveraged right now to help businesses overcome, adapt and thrive. Are you aligning yourself for what will occur? Andy literally wrote the book on large, catastrophic events and how they impact our markets, economy and world. As a futurist and economist, Andy dives deep into exploring how innovation, policy changes and societal shifts (war) drive opportunities for clients. He provides context by doing a “where we’ve been, where we are and where we’re going” for the economy. He takes the trends super charged by COVID & war, then applies them to your industry via a case study to show where money is flowing. Are you thinking about how to adapt to the disruptions to run your business better or how you can grow it faster? How are you challenging yourself with new ideas, new concepts, new technology? Can you understand the economic forces driving change to lead you in transforming your business and adapting your strategy to take control of the future? Andy says, “Let’s explore the economic future by getting you the tools you need to be successful.”
• Update on the war, supply chains and the economy
• Key trends supercharged by the virus and war
• Case study on your industry’s opportunities for growth
- 2022 US Midterm Elections; Outlook and Growth Opportunities
Midterm elections will likely bring big changes for US legislation, regulations and economy. There are razor thin Democratic majorities in both the House and the Senate. Since 1938, there have only been 2 times a sitting president added seats in a mid-term election. Gridlock is likely, but don’t be fooled by the name as there will be plenty of action in Congress. How will a split Congress impact regulation? Or spending? Or trade? Or the Supreme Court? Federal Reserve Policy? What will be the Biden legislative strategy for the remaining 2 years of his presidency? How will all this impact the 2024 US Presidential election? As an economic futurist, Andrew Busch has been in the US government when a shift has occurred and provides his insights into answering all these questions. Most importantly, he gives you an outlook for the growth opportunities coming from these changes for your industry and members.
· Outlook for outcome of US House and Senate midterm elections
· Key policy changes on legislation, trade and regulations impacting your industry
· Growth opportunities created by the changes and key trends driving the economic future
Andrew approaches this topic objectively to focus on potential outcomes and opportunities for growth. Given the current environment, this objectivity is critical for delivering information your clients will need in a way that doesn't turn them off.
- Election Outcome and Beyond: Impact on the Economy, Business and Jobs
The outcome of the 2020 election could have the largest swing in economic policy in our lifetimes. Democratic control of both the White House and Congress with the potential ending of the Senate 60 vote filibuster rule will drive the shift. Fiscal stimulus, tax & trade policy and clean energy/environment will all see big changes. Banks, insurers and tech will likely see regulatory shifts that may disrupt their business models. But any form of a split Congress/Presidency will contain major challenges across the entire economy. Andrew Busch tackles all of this and answers the key questions: what does it mean for your industry and how you can prepare for it? In this keynote, Andy objectively breaks down the winner’s policies impacting the economy, business and jobs. He'll give you the winners and losers in each sector of the economy. Trade, tax and energy will all be impacted and discussed. Andy takes your audience out of the current COVID chaos to provide confidence in the future.
- ESG: A Major Growth Opportunity
Environmental, Social and Governance or ESG is considered one of the hottest investment themes today for clients and investment professionals. Andy explains how a Biden victory and the new EU budget will supercharge interest in ESG. This is already happening as record amount of money has flowed into sustainable focused ETFs and open-end mutual funds in both in 2019. Most striking, money flowed into ESG equity products in 2020 when almost all other equity funds saw money leave.
